2011 Disability Awareness Festival

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness month in Ohio. The 2011 theme is Together. The Ohio Public Images Network has four different posters stressing that when we work together towards a truly inclusive community we see the future as brighter, our neighborhoods grow stronger, we accomplish more, and everyone wins! In order to work together and have an inclusive community we need to address the attitudinal barriers that affect the everyday life of individuals with developmental disabilities. Through positive awareness efforts we can replace fear and negative attitudes with knowledge and understanding. This is the goal of the annual Athens County Board of Developmental Disability Awareness Festival. The 2011 Festival includes advocacy awards, poetry reading, dance by the Factory Street Studio, Atco Bell Choir performance, videos of PersonnelPlus and transition from high school services and several displays.
