Beacon School has an opening for a Speech and Language Pathologist.

Beacon School is a special educational service provider for five local school districts in Athens County. School age programming is tailored to meet the needs of students age 5-21 with focus in the areas of functional academics, prevocational instruction, socialization, daily living skills, adaptive physical education, fine/gross motor skills, and recreation/leisure. We seek a Speech and Language Pathologist dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with exceptional needs and with a passion for serving a population diverse in social, educational and economic backgrounds and levels.

Wage: Competitive starting rate commensurate with qualifications

Schedule: Academic year 182 days; M-F 35 hrs/wk

Qualifications:
• Current Ohio Speech & Hearing Professionals Board licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist and Ohio Department of Education Pupil Services Licensure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse mix of professionals, students, parents and other constituents.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of developmental disabilities, behavior management and teaching strongly preferred.
• Possess good observational skills coupled with the ability to define problems, collect and analyze data and patterns, and draw valid conclusions.
• Valid driver’s license.

Job Duties:
• Assess and treat speech, language, cognition, swallowing disorders and social skills of program enrollees. Provide therapy individually or in small groups and in a variety of settings as prescribed in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Develop IEP goals, document progress and take appropriate data while ensuring appropriate therapy support throughout the school environment.
• Research and procure appropriate equipment, supplies, materials, and instruments for implementing programs.
• Conduct and utilize research; attend workshops, and seminars, to remain current on communication therapy.
• Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team in recommending appropriate interventions, including the need for direct therapy, informal consultation, and/or referral to community practitioners. Provide staff and parent training/consultation to implement appropriate communication strategies.
• Prepare and maintain documentation, written and electronic.
• Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration.
