Job Posting: Summer Camp Support Staff – Water Activities Coordinator / Lifeguard

The ACBDD is seeking candidates interested in working as Summer Camp Support Staff – Water Activities Coordinator / Lifeguard during the ACBDD’s Ray’s Days! Summer Camp program, in coordination with the Ohio University Kids on Campus.

Dates of the program employment are June 8 – July 10 (closed June 19 and July 3 for holidays). The position’s hourly rate will be commensurate based upon experience.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Must be available to work the entire duration of camp, including Counselor Training Week (June 8-12 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Camp (June 15-July 10 from 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.).
  • Prior experience as a lifeguard and/or leading water-based activities required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
  • Current lifeguard certification.
  • Understanding of adaptive aquatics and inclusive recreation.
  • Ability to follow aquatic safety procedures and provide emergency response and rescue techniques, if needed.
  • Ability to assist with transfers, mobility support and personal care.
  • Successful applicants will also be required to pass both state and federal background checks.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (must remain current throughout employment).

NOTE: If currently employed by ACBDD, duties must not interfere with primary ACBDD job responsibilities (must be done outside of normal working hours)

Job Duties:
Lifeguard will provide a variety of water-based activities designed to engage campers with diverse abilities and interests.

  • Plan, organize and lead daily aquatic activities for camp groups that are inclusive, engaging and developmentally appropriate.
  • Adapt activities to meet the physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional needs of campers.
  • Provide active lifeguard supervision to ensure camper safety and well-being during all water activities.
  • When not lifeguarding or planning water activities, provide support and assistance to Camp Counselors as needed.
  • Actively engage with campers and provide individual support as needed to help campers engage.
  • Support a safe, respectful, and positive camp environment by enforcing pool rules and camp guidelines.
  • Collaborate with camp staff , counselors, and supervisors to ensure inclusive and safe experiences.
  • Deliver personal care assistance in accordance with training including support with meals (breakfast and lunch), swim-time clothing changes, toileting, incontinence care and transfers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
