Job Posting: Summer Camp Program Counselors
The ACBDD is seeking candidates interested in working as Program Counselors during the ACBDD’s Ray’s Days! Summer Camp program, in coordination with the Ohio University Kids on Campus.
Dates of the program employment are June 8 – July 10 (closed June 19 and July 3 for holidays). The position’s hourly rate will be commensurate based upon experience.
PLEASE NOTE: Current college students should apply for Camp Counselor positions through Ohio University. A link will be shared once their postings are available.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
- Must be available to work the entire duration of camp, including Counselor Training Week (June 8-12 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Camp (June 15-July 10 from 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.).
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
- Successful applicants will also be required to pass both state and federal background checks.
- Experience working with school-aged children with and without disabilities is preferred.
NOTE: If currently employed by ACBDD, duties must not interfere with primary ACBDD job responsibilities (must be done outside of normal working hours)
Job Duties:
Summer Camp Counselors perform a variety of program activities, including:
- Work closely with the Lead Counselor and an assigned Camp Team.
- Effectively engage assigned campers in a variety of activities with Lead Counselor direction.
- Implements camp activities for groups of children and teens with disabilities attending the summer camp (i.e. swimming, art, music, hiking, games, sports, field trips, outdoor activities, etc.). Actively participates with children during activities.
- Support a safe and positive camp environment by upholding camp rules introduced in staff training and actively supervising campers during camp activities.
- Ensures children follow camp rules to be outlined at staff training. Ensures safety of campers while participating in camp activities.
- Deliver personal care assistance in accordance with training including support with meals (breakfast and lunch), swim-time clothing changes, toileting, incontinence care and transfers, while also mentoring and supporting less experienced camp staff with these tasks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
