Get Started

If you are volunteering with Atco Adult Services this quarter please read the following information carefully:

  • You must submit a Atco Adult Services Volunteer Application by hand at the Front Office at Atco, or by postal mail before you may begin volunteering. Please email me at jstock@athenscbdd.org and I will send you a form that you can download and fill out and return. At this point I am unable to accept completed applications online, sorry!
  • When you request an application, please let me know what class or student group you need these hours for. We work with a lot of new students each quarter, it is difficult to keep everyone straight as far as what class, how many hours, etc. On all of your correspondence with me, please remind me which class or group this is for!
  • If you need to verify your hours, keep a list of your volunteer hours, and I can sign off on them at the end of the quarter. Due to the large number of volunteers with our agency, I am unable to individually keep track of your hours. We use the honor system, if you hand me a sheet to sign, I will assume that you have actually completed the hours listed.
  • I have included several forms that specify your responsibilities as a volunteer with our program. Please read them over carefully, so that you are aware of our programming goals. In a nutshell, we are trying to help individuals with disabilities to be more fully included in our community. Encouraging appropriate social skills is critical to their acceptance and success in community settings. Please hold the individuals we serve to the same standards you would hold anyone else to. If someone exhibits inappropriate behavior, please let them know that is not acceptable, and please let the staff in charge know of any inappropriate behaviors. Once again, read the information that we have included with your application. It has lots of helpful hints on how to encourage appropriate behaviors by the individuals we serve. If you ever have any questions or concerns please contact me ASAP.

Thank you in advance for your involvement and efforts at enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities.
