Nursing
The ACBDD has two registered nurses – Megan Stack, RN at Beacon School, and Joanne Heinzman, RN and nursing supervisor at Atco. Nursing services are available at Atco and Beacon during programming hours. Services include nursing assessments to screen health/medical issues, medication administration as per physician’s orders, medication administered by the nurse, or delegated nursing staff which is supervised and trained by County Board nurses, nursing care and treatment for injuries, education to County Board employees, consumers, caregivers and families in regards to wellness and health.
The ACBDD Adult Service Aide team provides direct personal care services for the Adult Program at Atco. Consumers are assisted with daily living skills. The Adult Service Aide’s are trained in recognizing changes in health status of consumers then informing the nurse on these changes so an appropriate assessment can be done. This team works together to ensure quality services are delivered keeping safety maintained. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Developmental Disabilities by offering choices regarding daily tasks that need to be completed.
The Adult Service Aide Team is supervised by a registered nurse (Joanne Heinzman RN.) The nursing staff is certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, medication administration, and health related tasks. A bi-monthly newsletter on health and wellness is prepared for consumers and staff. The RN supervisor attends several meetings to ensure health and safety and quality services are being delivered. Often times families request information on medications, diagnosis, etc., from the County Board nurse. A bimonthly wellness letter is sent out to help educate consumers and CB employees.
